Mindy McCready Slashing More Than Prices This Christmas
It looks like Mindy McCready didn’t get what she wanted for Christmas this year- an easy way out. She failed in her career, she failed at an affair, now McCready failed again at a suicide attempt.
Now this seems like a heartless thing to say, right? Well, yes. Mindy has been crying for help for years now and no one has answered her call. Maybe people have helped or tried to help. I know that there is only so much someone can do without the compliance of the one in need. So I blame you Country Music America.
With this being said, I do wish the best for Mindy McCready, her family, and anyone that may have been affected by her poor decisions. And to Mindy -sober the hell up and quit wasting everyone’s time!

Ok, so let me get this straight…you think that someone’s cries for help is a waste of time? Mindy shows several signs of depression according to the DSM, She also shows signs of a dependent personality disorder. Both of these are serious things that need to be dealt with on her part. I know you don’t have any control over her decisions…but should we really make fun of someone at there expense? No, I don’t think so…but hey, that’ s just me. Suicide is a serious thing to deal with no matter who you are, I deal with patients daily who struggle with thoughts of suicide and depression. Because she has dealt with many issues through her life such as struggling with a career, choosing to have an affair, and now this I really don’t believe we should make fun of, or delight in someone’s pain. She is a person just like you and I, and would you want someone to delight in your pain?

You are right psych 101…suicide is a serious thing. According to the DSM-IV-TR the risk factors of suicide include-
a) mental diagnosis, especially depression and substance abuse, or Borderline Personality Disorder which increase risk – Y
b) over 45 years old are higher risk- N
c) sex (men try more lethal means, women try more often)- Y
d) marital status (unmarried are lowest risk, never married, divorced, widowed, recently sep are highest risk)- Y
e) recent job loss increases risk- Y, at least a slump
f) chronic illness is higher risk -N?
g) recent loss of loved one increases risk, as does the anniversary of the loss and fantasies of reuniting with the deceased- ?
h) hospitalized and discharged with improvement; this may seem counterintuitive, but many suicidal people feel better once they have made the decision to kill themselves, and have the energy to wrap up loose ends, see others and say goodbye… -Y
i) Caucasian – ethnic minorities have a lower suicide risk- Y
j) previous attempts – this is one of the best predictors- Y
k) gay/lesbian youth – may be at 3 to 5 times the risk for suicide as heterosexual Caucasian youth- N
l) extensive and detailed plans, or plans using a highly lethal means- Y
m) history of suicide in their family- ?
n) history of impulsive or reckless behavior- Y
We could check off more than not on this list for Mindy, right?
Suicide or mental disorders causing suicide or the suicide attempt is not a joking matter. But really, she fits 9 of the 14 listed risk factors for suicide. What is the minimum for diagnosis? 4, 5 Who is surprised that this happened? How does she manage to get intoxicated and alone to make these attempts. No, she cannot be committed to an institution without her consent- but is her behavior recently not enough to do so? Depression is real and addiction is a disease and no one needs to learn a lesson from another statistic. I appreciate the comment Psych 101 and hope that maybe this will be the last time Mindy falls on hard times. And I do hope that if there is another attempt that she fails again. I also hope that more support for suicide prevention can be boosted. I do hope I have not offended too many people with this harsh perspective.

I think Kyle needs some serious help, or at the very least sensitivity training. Reading between the lines, I sense that Kyle believes it would be better if Mindy were just to follow through with a suicide attempt and kill herself once and for all. What a sad day it would be if that were to happen.
Instead of posting a sarcastic message about Mindy’s failures in her life and what led her to her latest attempt, why not offer her your prayers and support. Yes, it is up to her to seek the help she needs, but to joke about it and offer a Photoshopped picture of Mindy’s “slashed” wrists is beyond poor taste.

Briguy, really? You are offended? Isn’t this what she wanted- attention? Well, I do hate for her family that it happened and do pray that she will get the help that she won’t get for herself…but, let’s remember the Boy Who Cried Wolf…(not the wolf part but the lesson we learn from it)

Attention? Maybe not…people who suffer from depression or thoughts of suicide feel that is their only hope to release the pain that they are holding inside. Many times the mode for suicide is not attention, it is simply to release pain that they feel cannot be released in any other way. Most of the time those who want attention from a suicide attempt are those who try overdosing on Tylonal or some other substance. Also those seeking attention will attempt wrecking their car, or purposely being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I believe that she has a lot of pain and strife built up from all of those years of “failures” as the original author put it. Many who attempt suicide will try a few times before they are “successful.” I pray that she seeks come serious counseling from someone and seeks the help that she truely needs. Clearly none of us or even her family members can make this choice for her, but we can pray for a healing and recovery from this event and whatever else she may be dealing with.

Anyone who knows Mindy knows she needs serious help. Her family is at their wits’ end and most of her “friends” are just as much attention whores as she is. She is probably one of the most selfish people, because if she truly cared about her family, her son, and her fans as much as she says she does, she’d quit all this nonsense and get herself some real help. She might be depressed, but all these pathetic suicide “attempts” are just as much cries for attention as much as they are cries for help. I mean, who else gets out of the hospital and then goes bar hopping?
